Hi, I'm a hopelessly awkward 18-year-old nerdy bookworm sci-fi-loving opinionated drama geek from Canada and loving it
Major life events in comics!
I document so much of my life in comics, it seemed … lazy?… to neglect such a big part of it. I’ve been trying to get this one out for a while, but i’m not prone to sappiness or self-aggrandizing (despite what making endless comics about myself might imply) so i had a hard time figuring out an approach.
So i went with honesty :)
Last year Lucy Knisley told the story of her engagement in a heartfelt and open comic that i really respected. I respect ALL of her work, her comics are awesome, if you’ve never checked them out you totally should. In sitting down to tell my own story it made me think about what getting married means to me. I’m sure it means something slightly different to everyone, but is by no means any less meaningful. But crystallizing that idea helped me here.
I was sweaty and gross and said “Yeah. Sure.” and Jason didn’t change his mind. I think we’re gonna be alright :)
LISSA GOT ENGAGED AND MADE A COMIC ABOUT IT ahgbluhbluhhhuhuhu *happy sobbing*
Liss and I have been buds since I was first whipped into a seething jealous rage upon seeing her art in middle school (how has it been that LONG, good lord), and she found a top notch dude in Jason and, and, and… I just couldn’t be happier for them. Those sweet bastards deserve each other. <3
I think this bird got confused when someone told him he belonged in the sky.
He decided to be the sky instead.
Wow! I’ve never seen a parrotlet with such beautiful colours! There is sort of a pied blue-green one but this is absolutely stunning.
Wonderful beautiful sky colours!
I am convinced that this snake is happily humming as he scampers across this lawn.
“hm hm hm hm hmmm, what a beautiful day today! I think I’ll swallow a chimpanzee!”
Harry was the favorite kid and he wasn’t even an official part of the family
Because Molly knows exactly how the Dursleys treat him. There’s no way Ron wouldn’t tell her. And Molly Weasley is a Mother. She gets a capital M because she is goddamn phenomenal at what she does. When she hears Harry Potter is on the train to Hogwarts in Book 1, her reaction isn’t to be starstruck. It’s to say “that poor dear had to come here all on his own.” Molly Weasley loves harder than anyone. She loves like it’s her sole reason for being. And when she hears there’s a poor boy who has never known love his whole life… how could she not?
In Year One Molly Weasley knit Harry a Weasley family sweater and made him homemade chocolate so he would have something to open on Christmas DON’T TOUCH ME
could I also just add that kids from abusive households tend to assume that yelling is directed at them and/or it heralds something bad for them so she’s making extra sure that he knows that this is not his fault and she’s not actually mad at him.
